I love how Carter and Sadie are just like alternate versions of Percy and Annabeth. It made the story and combat rather interesting. This story shows a lot of mixing of Greek and Egyptian magic. It was kind of him to make his first meeting of Carter sound more dignified than it actually was. She just rolled with everything, no secrets, without a second thought. I thought she would have had the same thoughts as Carter did in the first story, but she didn't. I think it's funny how for once Percy was more cautious about something than Annabeth. It was better than I expected considering who the main characters were. Neither of them are favorites of mine, but I didn't mind this story. Annabeth and Sadie have an action packed adventure combating a resurrected god. On April 5, 2016, it was released as the first of three short stories in a hardcover novel entitled Demigods and Magicians: Percy and Annabeth Meet the Kanes. This one is told from Annabeth's perspective. This story is told from Carter's perspective, and the two spend pretty much the whole story in combat. I also noticed in Sadie's solo picture, she's missing her highlights. They could have been spread around to be in tandem with the events they represent, but whatever. There are a few pictures clumped together in the last story. The first two stories have the two boys meet, and then the two girls meet, and the final one brings all four together. I'm sure they were published separately somewhere, but this has them all in one book. This book contains three connecting stories for a Percy Jackson and Kanes crossover. The good guys - all teens - get injured but heal with their magical nectar and potions. Expect the same kinds of fantasy violence in these shorts that you saw in the other series - battles against monsters and gods where they get stabbed with swords or blown up. Kids will need to have read at least some of the main Percy Jackson series (five books) and the slightly more complex Kane Chronicle series (three books) to get what's going on when Greek mythology and Egyptian mythology and magic collide. The hardcover book Demigods & Magicians: Percy and Annabeth Meet the Kanes includes all three stories, a forward by Percy Jackson, eight full-color illustrations, and a peek at the first chapter of The Hidden Oracle, the start of a series to be released in May 2016. "The Son of Sobek" was released in 2013, "The Staff of Serapis" in 2014, and "The Crown of Ptolemy" in 2015. Parents need to know that these three short stories, which combine main characters from Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles series, were previously available separately as ebooks only.
